Q 2.15 Project #2 Group Presentation For this group presentation, you will be selecting a culture or community that is portrayed as "the other" in the United States. The group topics include African Americans, Asians, Homeless, Jews, Muslims, Latinos, immigrants, LGBTQ, people with disabilities, the poor, mentally ill, teen mothers, ex-felons, and women (single parents, women without children). You can also choose to focus on a group that is not on this list. For your presentation, you will want to have a central argument about how the culture you are studying is othered, and provide examples from your research to support your argument. To join a group, click on the "people" tab on the navigation bar on the left, then click on "Project #2 groups" tab at the top, then next to the name of the group topic you are interested in, click the join link. You can create a google document (Links to an external site.) with your group members or a Power point slide show, which each member contributing slides, or you can compile videos from the various members of your group. Here are the steps you need to take: 1. Communicate with your canvas group by clicking on the group topic that you have joined. Discuss how you will break the group down so that each student has their own sub-topic. 2. Find at least one article or book about how the group you have chosen is discriminated against and stereotyped using the LACC library databases (Links to an external site.). Research the negative stereotypes and discriminatory practices towards this group. Post a citation and summary in the next assignment. 3. Share your research with your group. 4. Select one person to compile the research into a google document, PowerPoint presentation, or video. 5. Make sure that each group member's contribution to the presentation is clearly labeled with the person's name, since the project is evaluated on an individual basis. 6. Submit the presentation by the deadline. Make sure to have the names of the participants on the presentation. 7. Make sure to view the other group presentations so that you can respond to the second essay exam question.
